We are currently seeking a Facilities Community Relations Specialist to support the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Facilities Services Division. In this role, you will serve as a key liaison between project teams, community stakeholders, and public agencies to ensure transparency, communication, and community participation in school construction initiatives.
You will play a critical role in organizing outreach initiatives, coordinating community meetings, and supporting public engagement efforts related to major capital improvement projects across the district.

What You’ll Do – Your Mission
Identify, contact, and collaborate with community groups, school administrators, elected officials, and regulatory agencies to support engagement in construction projects and Facilities Services Division initiatives
Implement community outreach strategies for assigned construction projects and programs
Schedule, coordinate, and organize outreach activities including community meetings, forums, and district events
Attend and support community meetings and outreach events throughout the district to inform and engage stakeholders
Provide information to the public regarding school construction processes including site selection, environmental requirements, acquisition, relocation, and design and construction activities
Prepare written reports and provide information to Community Relations leadership for presentations to the Board of Education, Bond Oversight Committee, and other stakeholders
Coordinate and support planning committees for special events such as groundbreaking ceremonies, ribbon cuttings, and school openings
Monitor event planning logistics and track expenditures related to outreach activities
Develop and maintain project files and contact databases for assigned programs and projects
Provide information to district personnel, community organizations, business groups, and the public regarding procurement policies and procedures related to Facilities Services Division programs
Support collaboration between district departments, community stakeholders, and project teams
Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in:
Public Relations
Community Relations
Urban Planning
Business Administration
Public Administration
Or a related field
OR additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis for up to two years
Experience
Minimum four (4) years of full-time professional experience in community outreach, public engagement, or public relations within a public or private organization
Experience organizing outreach campaigns, coordinating community meetings, or working with community-based organizations preferred
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of public relations principles and community engagement strategies
Understanding of local government structures and community issues
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and community groups
Ability to gather and synthesize information from multiple sources
Experience preparing presentations and outreach materials
Strong organizational and coordination skills
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Additional Requirements
Valid California Driver’s License
Ability to travel to various locations throughout the district to attend meetings and community events
